WE NEED TO BE QUIET
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the
heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalms
46:10 KJV
I
usually have gospel music playing while I am writing devotions or contacting
people about my devotions. However,
there are times when I don’t turn music on all day and just be quiet and listen
for God to speak to me. God is not going
to shout over music to make Himself heard.
We need to be listening for Him.
Several
years ago, I was a member of a church that started playing the music so loud
that I couldn’t hear the pastor preach or hear him pray during the invitation
time. Instead of staying upset about it
or complaining, I prayed about it and God laid it on my heart to find another
church.
Many
years ago, when I was in the mental hospital where I had checked myself in
because I was suicidal, they played music so loud that it caused a man to kick
out the window in the day room and I was sitting next to him at the time. Needless to say, it frightened me. There are times when we need to be quiet.
We
can’t expect God to shout to get our attention.
He is not going to do it. It is
very important that we listen for Him to speak to our heart. We need to show respect to our Heavenly
Father and allow Him to talk to us when He has something to say to us. Can we hear Him or are the television and
music too loud?
Heavenly
Father, forgive us for the times we haven’t heard You talking to us because the
television or the music was too loud. I
pray that we will listen with our heart to what You want us to do. Thank You for being a tender loving and
compassionate Father. I love You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
