A SONG OF LOVE AND
JOY
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the
Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Luke
2:11-14 KJV
Charles
Wesley wrote one of my favorite Christmas carols, the beautiful Christmas hymn “Hark,
the Herald Angels Sing”. Just as the
angels sang and rejoiced because Jesus was born, so you and I should also sing
and rejoice because the precious Baby Jesus was born. Jesus grew up and became our Saviour.
Jesus
left His Father, His home and all that He had to come to earth and die on the
cross for our sins. Jesus, Who had never
done anything wrong or sinned allowed them to crucify Him on a cross of agony
and suffered excruciating pain. No one
has ever endured pain and suffering like Jesus did and nobody ever will.
One
of the definitions I found in Webster’s Dictionary for endure is “to experience
(pain or suffering) for a long time”.
I’m sure when Jesus was hanging on that cross with the blood flowing
down His body, He felt that He had been hanging on the cross for a long time. He endured all that pain for you and for me.
His
body was not the only thing that was hurting.
His heart was also hurting because of the way He was treated and the
rejection He felt. I believe every time
they pounded a nail into His hands that He also felt the pain in His
heart. Have you allowed it to go from
head knowledge to heart knowledge that Jesus loves you?
