ARE WE WATCHING

“Watch therefore: for ye know not when your Lord doth come.”

Matthew 24:42 KJV

There is a cat next door that sits at the door of the house every morning and waits for my neighbor to come out of the house.  O that you and I would be as faithful to watch for Jesus to come as the cat is to watch for my neighbor.  John W. Peterson wrote the beautiful hymn “Jesus Is Coming Again”.

I love these heart touching words in this hymn.  “Marvelous message we bring, Glorious carol we sing, Wonderful word of the King, Jesus is coming again!”  We don’t know when Jesus is coming back for us but He is coming and we need to be ready to meet Him when He comes back for us.  Are we ready?

Dr. James Edwin Orr wrote a hymn that we sing but I wonder if we sing this hymn from our heart.  Do we really mean the words we sing?  “Search me, O God, and know my heart today; Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray”.  Would we be ashamed if He searched our heart today?

When we go on a trip, we usually make plans to go.  When Jesus comes back for us, we won’t have time to get ready.  Have you invited Jesus into your heart to be your personal Saviour?  Are you ready to meet Jesus if He comes back for us while you are reading this devotion?  Is your heart right with God?

I have been saved by the cleansing and redeeming blood of Jesus.  On August 14, 1980, I humbled myself, admitted I was a sinner, asked God to forgive my sins and invited Jesus into my heart to be my Saviour.  He took away my old heart and gave me a new heart.  I am a sinner saved by grace.  O how I love Jesus!
