WE ARE GUILTY

“And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
Exodus 20:1-3 KJV

One of the definitions I found in Webster’s Dictionary for god is “Any person or thing exalted too much in estimation, or deified and honored as the chief good”.  I think there are times that we are guilty of exalting sports and people more than we do God and it hurts Him and breaks His heart.

Heavenly Father, please forgive us for sometimes putting people, sports and things before You.  I pray that we will give You first place in our heart, in our life and in everything we do.  Thank You for being a loving Father Who loves us even when we hurt You and fail You.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

WE HAVE BEEN ADOPTED

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:15 KJV

Harriet Eugenia Peck Buell wrote one of my favorite hymns “A Child of the King”.  I love these words in this inspiring hymn.  “I once was an outcast stranger on earth, A sinner by choice, an alien by birth, But I’ve been adopted, my name’s written down, An heir to a mansion, a robe and a crown.”

On August 14,1980, when I admitted that I was a sinner, asked God to forgive me and invited Jesus into my heart to be my personal Saviour, I was adopted Into God’s family by our Heavenly Father.  What joy fills my heart to know that I am a child of the King and my home is in Heaven.

How about you?  Have you invited Jesus into your heart to be your personal Saviour so that you too will have a mansion in Heaven?  We read in the Bible “In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2).

Think about it.  Jesus is preparing a place for you in Heaven and it will be filled with peace, joy and happiness for all eternity.  If you have never invited Jesus into your heart, I urge you to do it now.  Don’t miss out on spending eternity in Heaven with Jesus.  O how He loves you.  He loves you so much He died for you.

THE LONGEST HUG

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16 KJV

When my brother left home to go into the service, my Mother hugged him and then she stood outside watching him leave for a long time even when he was out of sight.  I believe when Jesus left His Father and His Home that God hugged Him for a long time and then stood watching Him leave.

I believe They cried when Jesus left His Father.  Just as a dad tells his son about the things he is going to face when he leaves home, I believe God told His Son about the things that were going to happen to Him.  O how God loves His Son!  How He must have missed His Son while He was gone.

I think God said to Jesus, “If there were any other way for people to be saved, I wouldn’t give You to die on the cross for their sins.”  However, there was no other way for us to be saved.  Jesus had never sinned so His blood is the only thing that saves us from our sins.

We read in the Bible.  “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” (1 Peter 1:18,19).

Thank God for the unconditional love God has for us that caused Him to give His Son to die for our sins.  What a Saviour, this Jesus of Nazareth!  Worthy is the Lamb of God!  All hail, King Jesus!  He is the “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS”!

ARE WE READY

“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”
Matthew 24:44 KJV

We may be saved and serving Jesus but are we ready to meet Him if He should come today?  If we have unforgiveness, bitterness, jealousy, hatred and resentment in our heart, we are not ready to meet Him.  How sad it will be and how it will break our Saviour’s heart if we aren’t ready to meet Him.

Someone said “I will never forgive you for what you did”.  What would happen if Jesus had said to us “I will never forgive you” and hadn’t died on the cross for our sins?  Jesus did forgive us and He did die on the cross for our sins.  If the Saviour of the world can forgive us, we need to forgive those who have hurt us.

If we want others to forgive us for hurting them, we need to forgive those who hurt us.  We need to remember that nobody is perfect.  I have received emails telling me how wonderful I am because I write devotions.  Don’t look to me because I am human and I am not perfect.  Keep your eyes on Jesus!

Heavenly Father, I ask You to please forgive me for the times I have allowed unforgiveness, resentment and bitterness to stay in my heart.  I’m sorry.  Please help us to love one another unconditionally as Jesus has commanded us to love one another.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

DROPS OF BLOOD

“And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.  And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.  And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”
Luke 22:41-44 KJV

Charles Hutchinson Gabriel wrote a beautiful hymn about our precious Saviour “I Stand Amazed in the Presence”.  “For me it was in the garden He prayed: “Not My will, but Thine.” He had no tears for His own griefs, But sweat drops of blood for mine.”  Do you understand that Jesus shed His blood for you?

How we must hurt Jesus and break His heart when we don’t take the time to fellowship with Him.  Jesus, the Saviour of the world, suffered more and endured more pain and agony than You and I will ever know.  After all that Jesus has done for us, how can we do less than give Him our heart, our life and our time?

Sometimes, even though I know better, satan tries to convince me Jesus doesn’t love me and then I remember the cross and the blood that He shed for me.  When satan lies to you and he will lie to you, remember the cross and the unconditional and unending love Jesus has for you.

Heavenly Father, I pray for those who will read this devotion.  Please help them to realize how much You love them and how much Jesus loves them.  I pray for those who are lonely, discouraged, and heartbroken and who feel all alone.  Please comfort and encourage them.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

EVEN IN OUR DREAMS

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”
1 Peter 5:8 KJV

When we serve Jesus, it make satan angry and he will do everything he can do to discourage us so much that we stop serving Jesus.  We must not let that happen!  I had a terrible dream that every friend I had told me I was no good and said they didn’t want anything to do with me.  It really scared me.

As soon as I woke up, I felt at peace because I know Jesus loves me and won’t let anything happen to me.  We read in the Bible.  “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God” (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4).

How thankful I am that we have a loving protective Heavenly Father Who will comfort and encourage us when we are hurting and discouraged.  If you are discouraged, allow God to comfort you.  He will pick you up and hold you close to His heart like a dad comforts his children.  O how God loves you.

DO YOU KNOW

“For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”
1 Timothy 1:12 KJV

Evangelist Daniel Webster Whittle wrote one of my favorite hymns “I Know Whom I Have Believed”.  I love these words in this inspiring hymn.  “But I know Whom I have believèd, And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto Him against that day.”  What an inspiring hymn!

Do you know Jesus?  How much time do you spend with Him during the day?  If we spend more time watching television or doing things that take away from the time we should be spending with Him, we are hurting Him and breaking His heart.  Jesus deserves to have first place in our heart and in our time.

Do you know how much Jesus loves you?  You may be saved and have read the entire Bible but have you allowed it to enter your heart how much Jesus loves you?  Do you know He allowed them to pound nails into His hands and spit on Him and curse and mock Him for you?

Heavenly Father, I pray for every person who reads this that You would help them understand how much they are loved.  I pray for every pastor who is preaching the good news of our risen Saviour.  Please encourage them, comfort them, and let them know how much You love them.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

REASSURE THEM

“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.”
Hebrews 12:6 KJV

God has had to take me out to His woodshed several times when I hurt Him and was disobedient.  However, when God takes us out to His woodshed, He always reassures us that He still loves us. Parents need to reassure their children that they still love them even though they are being punished.

May God help us to be loving parents who reassure our children that we still love them even though we have to punish them.  How heartbreaking it would be if God stopped loving us when we hurt Him and disobeyed Him.  Our Heavenly Father is a tender compassionate Father Who loves us all the time.

Heavenly Father, help us to be parents who reassure our children that no matter how many times they disobey us we will still love them.  May we be parents who lead our children to Jesus not only by our words, but especially by our actions.  May they see Jesus in us.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

THE PRECIOUS LAMB

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
1 Peter 1:18,19 KJV

Jesus is the precious Lamb of God.  “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).  Jesus loves us so much He died on the cross for our sins.  Not only was Jesus’ heart broken that day, God’s heart was also broken.

There is only one way to be saved and go to Heaven and that is when the precious blood of Jesus is applied to our heart for the forgiveness of our sins.  Have you allowed Jesus to apply His cleansing blood to your heart for the forgiveness of your sins?  If not, I urge you, I plead with you to say yes to Jesus now.

It is the most important decision you will ever make.  It is more important than where we work, where we live and who we marry.  For some people, Jesus has been knocking at the door of their heart for many years and they have refused to open the door and let Jesus come in to their heart.

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).  Please don’t keep Jesus standing at the door of your heart any longer.  Invite Him into your heart to be your personal Saviour before it is too late.

OUR PRECIOUS SAVIOUR

“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.”
Luke 23:33 KJV

Marvin P. Dalton wrote “O What A Savior”  Every time I hear this hymn, I get tears in my eyes to think that my Saviour loves me so much He died for me.  “Oh what a Savior, oh Hallelujah His heart was broken on Calvary His hands were nail scarred, His side was riven He gave His life’s blood for even me.”

Four words “O What A Saviour”, there are not enough words to describe the unconditional love Jesus has for you and for me.  You may wonder why Jesus died for you like I used to wonder.  It is because not only does He give love, He is Love.  If someone asks you Who Jesus is, tell him or her that He is Love.

O what a Saviour we are privileged to know and have!  Do you understand yet how much Jesus loves you?  Have you allowed it to go from head knowledge to heart knowledge?  The Love of Jesus, unconditional love, is the answer to everything and every situation.  Please join me in praising our Saviour!

HAVE YOU COME TO JESUS

“Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.  Lord, hear my voice: let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.”
Psalms 130:1,2 KJV

Pastor William True Sleeper wrote “Jesus, I Come”.  “Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night, Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come; Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light, Jesus, I come to Thee; Out of my sickness, into Thy health, Out of my want and into Thy wealth, Out of my sin and into Thyself Jesus, I come to Thee.”

Have you come to Jesus for help?  I have many times.  What a healing balm it is to our weary battle scarred heart to know that we can come to Jesus when we are hurting and need Him.  The question we need to answer is “Do I go to Jesus just to tell Him how much I love and appreciate Him?

I think sometimes we treat Jesus like He is a puppet and only take Him down when we need something.  Jesus is the “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” and He is to be treated with respect.  Do you realize that it is a privilege to be loved by the Saviour of the world?  O how He loves you.

Heavenly Father, please forgive us for the times we take Jesus for granted and neglect to tell Him how much we love Him.  I know that it hurts You to see how Your Son is treated at times.  Heavenly Father, I pray for all who are discouraged, please encourage them.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

EVERYTHING

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Isaiah 1:18 KJV

Elvina Mable Hall wrote one of my favorite hymns that brings tears of gratitude to my eyes for what Jesus did for me.   “Jesus Paid It All.”  I’m so glad these words are true.  “Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.”  What a precious loving Saviour we have.

There is nothing we could ever do to be clean enough or good enough to go to Heaven.  We can’t work for it.  We can’t buy our way into Heaven.  It is only through the redeeming cleansing blood of Jesus that we can be saved and spend eternity in Heaven with Jesus.

Do you understand yet how much Jesus loves you?  He allowed them to beat Him beyond recognition, spit on Him, curse Him, mock Him and nail Him to the old rugged cross.  He could have come down from the cross.  All the nails in the world couldn’t have kept Him on the cross but He stayed on the cross for us.

Rev. Ray Overholt wrote a heart touching hymn about our precious Saviour “Ten Thousand Angels”.  “He could have called ten thousand angels To destroy the world and set Him free. He could have called ten thousand angels, But He died alone for you and me.”  Thank God for the love of our Saviour.

Yes, everything we have belongs to Jesus.  He should have first priority in our heart, in our life, in our time and in everything we do.  If ever someone deserves to be honored, loved and praised, it is Jesus, the Saviour of the world.  All hail, King Jesus!

ONE HAPPY JOYOUS DAY

“And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”
Mark 14:62 KJV

Jim Hill wrote the beautiful hymn “What A Day That Will Be”.  I love these words in this heart touching hymn.  “There is coming a day when no heartaches shall come No more clouds in the sky, no more tears to dim the eye. All is peace forevermore on that happy golden shore, What a day, glorious day that will be.”

One day there will be no more tears or sorrow because Jesus, the Saviour of the world, is coming back for us to take us home to Heaven and we will be with Him for all eternity.  Think about it.  We will be with Jesus forever and there won’t be anything to make us sad and cry.  O how I long for the day when I see Jesus.

If you are going through a dark valley and don’t think you can take another step or give another smile, tell Jesus.  When He was here on His mission, He too went through dark valleys and had much heartache so He understands how we feel.  He will pick us up and carry us until the pain goes away.

Just to say His beautiful Name fills my heart with joy.  One happy day, we will see Him face to face. These words in this hymn bring tears of happiness to my eyes.  “What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see, And I look upon His face,”  Jesus loves you, dear friend,  more than you know.

DO THEY

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.”
Romans 8:29 KJV

Leila Naylor Morris wrote the hymn “Can the World See Jesus in You?”  Every Christian needs to search their heart and answer this question.  “Can the world see Jesus in me?  Can the world see Jesus in you?  Does your love to Him ring true, And your life and service, too?  Can the world see Jesus in you?”

Can we honestly say that the world sees Jesus in us in our actions and hear Him in the things we say?  I want everyone to know I love Jesus by the things I do and the words I say.  May God help us to live for Jesus every day in every way.  Let’s lead others to Jesus by our actions and by our words.

YES IT WAS

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 2:20 KJV

Rose Nicol Coull wrote the hymn “Was It for Me?”  The words in this hymn should make us fall on our knees and praise the One Who loves us so much He died for us.  “Was it for me, the nails, the spear, The cruel thorns, the mocking jeer, That rugged cross, ’twixt earth and sky—Was it for me He came to die?”

Yes, it was for us He came to die.  Think about it.  Jesus had never sinned yet He willingly walked that long lonely road to Calvary and allowed them to beat Him beyond recognition, spit on Him, mock Him, curse Him and pound nails into His hands which I believe He felt in His heart.

If you ever doubt you are loved, remember the cross and the agony and torture Jesus endured for you.  No one loves you like Jesus loves you and nobody ever will.  O how I love Jesus and one day I will have the privilege and joy of seeing Him face to face.  I am going to hug Him and tell Him how much I love Him.

If you have never invited Jesus into your heart to be your personal Saviour, I urge you, I plead with you to admit you are a sinner, ask God to forgive you and invite Jesus into your heart before it is too late.  One day it will be too late to say yes to Jesus.  Don’t put it off.  Do it now!

THERE IS A CONDITION

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”
1 Corinthians 2:9 KJV

Our loving Heavenly Father has many good things prepared for us but there is a condition.  Our Scripture verse reads “God hath prepared for them that love him.”  We can tell people we love Him and give money and do good things for people but God can see into our heart.  He knows if we love Him.  We can’t fool Him.

When you love someone, you want to spend time with that person.  How much time do we spend with our Heavenly Father?  Do we talk to Him when we get up in the morning or are we too busy?  If we are too busy to spend time with God, we need to rearrange our schedule and make sue that He comes first.

Heavenly Father, please forgive us for putting things and people ahead of You.  You have done so much for us.  You gave Your beloved Son to die on the cross for our sins.  Help us to put You first in our heart, in our life and in everything we do.  I love You, Heavenly Father.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

FOREVER

“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Matthew 28:20 KJV

My sister and brother-in-law moved out of state and I already miss them.  When our friends and family move, we are sad but our best Friend, Jesus, will never leave us.  Not only will He be with us here on earth, He will be with us forever.  Knowing He will never leave us should fill our heart with joy and happiness.

We read in the Bible.  “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3).  He loves us so much that He is preparing a place for us.  What a Saviour!  What a Friend, this Jesus of Nazareth!  All hail, King Jesus!  How I love Jesus.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus.  I pray for everyone who is lonely, discouraged, brokenhearted and who feels all alone.  Please comfort and encourage them.  Jesus, I love You so much and I long for the day when I will see You face to face.  Thank You for dying for my sins and for never leaving me.”

IN THE PRESENCE OF JESUS

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”
Psalms 16:11 KJV

We have a lot of joy at Christmas and we can have the joy all year long if we will stay in the presence of Jesus.  Our Scripture verse tells us that when we are in the presence of Jesus we have the fulness of joy.  Pastor Barney Elliott Warren wrote one of my favorite hymns “Joy Unspeakable”.  I love this hymn.

I love these words in this hymn “I have found the joy no tongue can tell, How its waves of glory roll; It is like a great o’erflowing well, Springing up within my soul.”  O the joy of knowing that Jesus loves us unconditionally and He will never leave us.  He really cares about us, so much that He died on the cross for us.

If you are going through a dark valley, allow Jesus to pick you up in His loving arms.  He will carry you until the pain goes away and will set you once again on the mountain top of happiness.  What a loving compassionate Saviour we are privileged to know and have.  O how I love Jesus.

ALL OUR SINS

“Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
John 19:29,30 KJV

Mrs. Walter G. Taylor wrote one of my favorite hymns “Calvary Covers It All”.  “Calvary covers it all, My past with its sin and stain; My guilt and despair Jesus took on Him there, And Calvary covers it all.”  When we invite Jesus into our heart to be our personal Saviour, everything we have ever done is forgiven.

One of the most vicious attacks satan hurls at us is when he tries to convince us that Jesus doesn’t love us and we haven’t been forgiven and never will be forgiven.  Don’t listen to satan because he is a liar.  When Jesus said “It is finished” He took all our sins on His body and paid the penalty for our sins.

What kind of love is this that our Saviour would willingly walk that long lonely road to Calvary and allow them to crucify Him for our sins?  It is an amazing unconditional love that can only come from the heart of our precious Saviour.  What a Saviour!  What a Friend, this Jesus of Nazareth!

Please join me in praising the One Who left His Father, His home and all that He had to die on a cross of agony and pain for us.  All hail King Jesus!  Worthy is the Lamb of God!  He is the “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS”.  It should be the desire of every Christian to serve Jesus.

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving Your beloved Son to die for our sins.  I love You, Heavenly Father.  I love You, Jesus.  I love You, Holy Spirit.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

YES HE DOES

“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.”
Hebrews 9:12 KJV

One of the most vicious attacks of satan is when he lies to us and tries to convince us that Jesus doesn’t love and that God will never forgive us for our past.  That is a lie straight from the pits of hell.  When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He paid the penalty for our sins so that we can be forgiven.

Before I was saved and when I was growing up I was not a very nice person.  I was disrespectful to my parents.  I had a terrible temper.  I even told my Mother one time that I hated her.  Of all the things I did before I was saved and Jesus gave me a new heart, telling my Mother I hated her was the worse thing I did.

For many years, I believed the lies of satan when he told me God would not forgive me for my past and that He would never love me.  Thank God that one day I realized that satan is a liar and that God does love me.  When satan tries to convince me now that God doesn’t love me, I tell him yes He does love me.

Don’t listen to the lies of satan when he tries to convince you that God won’t forgive you and doesn’t love you.  I submit to you on the authority of the Word of God that He does love you and if you have confessed your sins, He has forgiven you and you have a home in Heaven for all eternity.

EXCITEMENT

“And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
Luke 11:9, 10 KJV

Have you ever been excited about something and you shared it with someone and that person didn’t get excited?  The next time you get excited and want someone to be happy and excited with you, tell Jesus and He will share your excitement.  He is not only our Saviour, He is also our best Friend.

Pastor Edmund Simon Lorenz wrote one of my favorite hymns “Tell It To Jesus”.  I love these words.  “Are you weary, are you heavy hearted?  Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus.  Are you grieving over joys departed?  Tell it to Jesus alone.”  Jesus shares our heartaches and He also shares our joy and happiness.

The next time you are discouraged because people don’t share your excitement and happiness, tell God.  He loves you very much and He will share your excitement and happiness with you.  It is very important that we are encouragers to one another and share excitement and happiness.

ROACHES AND ANTS

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
Jeremiah 33:3 KJV

I had roaches and ants in my home for several months.  I sprayed them, swatted them and killed them but they kept coming back.  I started to dry my sinks every time I used them and I did not leave any food on the dirty dishes.  I rinsed the dishes off to make sure the food was gone and then washed the dishes with soap.

Since I started drying the sinks after I ran water in them and immediately rinsing the dishes, I have not had roaches and ants and this has been for almost a year.  It is the same with the vicious attacks of satan.  If we will immediately ask God to help us when satan attacks us, we won’t have so many problems

Jesus has warned us to be on the alert for the attacks of satan.  We read in the Bible “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:” (I Peter 5:8).  The next time satan attacks you, immediately run into the protective arms of God..

ARE WE TELLING

“That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.”
Psalms 26:7 KJV

William Edie Marks wrote a beautiful hymn “Keep Telling It”.  I love the words in this hymn.  “If there is abundance of joy in your heart, Made bright by the light from above, If Jesus has bidden your sorrows depart, Keep telling the story of love.”  Are we telling the story of love?

Many years ago when I lived in Texas, my pastor preached a sermon on serving Jesus.  Pastor Byron said “If you want to fly higher than a kite, start serving Jesus”.  When he said that, I didn’t realize he was serious.  However, since I have had the privilege of serving Jesus, I have been flying higher than a kite.

Someone emailed me and wrote “You write about Jesus loving us all the time”.  I don’t know if the person was complaining or not but as long as I have breath and have the privilege of serving Jesus, I will keep telling everyone how much Jesus loves us.  The unconditional love of Jesus is the answer to our heartaches.

May God help us to tell everyone we see how much Jesus loves them.  However, it is not enough to tell them Jesus loves them.  We must prove Jesus loves them by our kind and loving words and actions.  It is also very important that our family sees the difference Jesus has made in our heart and life.

OUR BURDENS

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 KJV

Charles Austin Miles wrote the hymn “All Alone”.  I’m so glad these words are true.  “When I have burdens to bear which no one can share, I take them to Jesus, the Man of Calvary; When I have crosses to bear, my Savior is there, And always takes the heavy end, and gives the light to me.”

Our loving Saviour is faithful to bear our burdens when we feel like we can’t take another step or give another smile.  Have you ever told someone about a burden you were carrying and thought the person didn’t understand?  Not only does Jesus understand what we are going through, He really cares.  It breaks His heart when we are sad.

We need to share our burdens with Jesus.  Pastor Charles Price Jones wrote the hymn “Come unto Me”.  “Hear the blessèd Savior calling the oppressed, “O ye heavy laden, come to Me and rest. Come, no longer tarry, I your load will bear, Bring Me every burden, bring Me every care.”

OUR WELL OF LOVE

“Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”
John 4:13,14 KJV

Several years ago, a hurricane hit where I live and we were without water.  I had bottled water to drink but it didn’t taste as good to me as the water I got from the faucet.  No matter how much water I drank, I still was thirsty.  Jesus is our well of love and He satisfies our thirst for love and for acceptance.

Pastor Richard Blanchard wrote a beautiful heart touching hymn about our precious Saviour “Fill My Cup, Lord”.  I love these words.  “There are millions in this world who are seeking For pleasures earthly goods afford. But none can match the wondrous treasure That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.”

Are you thirsty for love and for acceptance?  Jesus has promised us that He will never leave us, not even for a minute.  “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:20).

Think about it.  Jesus, the KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” is with us all the time.  Not only will He never leave us, He will also pick us up in His loving arms and carry us through our dark valleys until the pain goes away.  O how Jesus loves you!  Yes, if you are reading this, I mean you.

IMMEDIATELY

“(To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth.) God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.”
Psalms 46:1-3 KJV

When we need help all we have to do is pray and ask God to help us.  There are times when we make our own problems because we don’t ask God to help us.  When we call someone and ask for help, we have to wait for the person to help us.  God is with us all the time and He will help us immediately.

Heavenly Father, thank You for caring, for loving us and for helping us.  You are a tender loving compassionate Father and I love You.  Thank You for adopting me into Your family and for giving me the privilege of serving Your Son.  Please comfort all who are discouraged.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

ALWAYS

“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Matthew 28:20 KJV

Audrey Meier wrote one of my favorite hymns “I'll Never Be Lonely Again”.  “Lonely days and lonely nights, Filled with despair, Caused me to long for Someone to care; Then I heard Christ say to me; “This promise I’ve made: Lo! I am with you Now and forever, Be not afraid.”

For many years I believed no one loved me or cared if I lived or died.  It wasn’t true but that is how I felt.  Then one happy day, Jesus put His arms of compassion around me and told me that He loves me.  There are no words to tell you how I felt and still do feel knowing that the Saviour of the world loves me.

Think about it.  The precious Baby Jesus grew up and willingly walked that long lonely road to Calvary and there allowed them to crucify Him for our sins.  He had never done anything wrong yet He was beaten beyond recognition, spat on, cursed, rejected and left alone to die.  What a Saviour, this Jesus of Nazareth!

If you are going through a dark valley and feel all alone, know that Jesus understands how you feel and He cares.  When we cry, He cries with us and when we are happy, He rejoices with us.  No one loves you like Jesus loves you and nobody ever will.  What a privilege is ours to be loved by the Saviour of the world.

THE FRIENDSHIP OF OUR SAVIOUR

“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
John 15:14 KJV

Jesus will be our Friend but we must do what He commands us to do.  Can we honestly say we are doing what He has told us to do?  We can fool others and even ourselves but He sees what is in our heart and He knows if we are just giving Him lip service.  He has commanded us to love unconditionally.

We read in the Bible.  “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34).  Do we love others unconditionally as He loves us?  I have to be honest and say there are times when God has to take me to His woodshed and correct me.

I get emails telling me how wonderful it is that I write devotions and I appreciate those emails because there are times when everybody needs encouragement.  However, don’t look to me, to your pastor or to your Sunday school teacher.  Look to Jesus because He is perfect and He will never fail you.

What a privilege is ours to not only be loved by the Saviour of the world but also to have Him as our Friend.  There is no friendship as sweet as the friendship of Jesus.  How it brings tears of happiness and joy to me to know that one day I will have the privilege of seeing Him face to face.

Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times when I fail You and hurt You.  I’m sorry.  I pray for every pastor who is preaching the good news of our risen Saviour.  Please encourage them and let them know how much You love them and appreciate their service to You.  In Jesus’ Name, I pray.  Amen.

IT IS HARD TO DO

“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.”
Luke 6:27,28 KJV

Our Scripture verses instruct us to love our enemies but it is hard to do, isn’t it?  Yet, that is exactly what our loving Saviour did when He died for us on the cross.  He had been spat on, cursed, mocked, rejected and beaten beyond recognition.  If anyone ever had a right to hate people, it was Jesus.

Even while hanging on the cross in excruciating pain with the blood flowing down His body, He asked God to forgive us.  “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots” (Luke 23:34).  This is an amazing unconditional love for you and me.

If we would ever realize that when we hurt people, we also hurt Jesus I believe that we would stop criticizing them and start encouraging them.  Thank God for our Saviour and for the old rugged cross.  What a Saviour!  What a Friend, this Jesus of Nazareth!  All hail, King Jesus!  Worthy is the Lamb of God!

OUR LIVING SAVIOUR

“And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.  He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”
Matthew 28:5-7 KJV

Rev. William Marion Runyan wrote an inspiring hymn about our victorious Saviour “Again He’ll Come”.  I love these words.  “Again, but not in weakness or in sorrow; Again, but not for bitter pain and loss; The Son of God shall come in glory splendid, Again, but not to bear shame’s bitter cross.”

Jesus is coming back for us and He will get the honor He deserves.  “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10, 11).

O how I want to see Jesus.  I love Him so much.  He is the reason I’m living and the Joy of my heart.  I get tears of happiness in my eyes to know that one day I will see my precious Saviour face to face.  I’m going to give Him a hug and spend eternity telling Him how much I love Him.
