CHILDREN ARE NOT PAWNS

“And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.  But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”
Mark 10:13,14 KJV

A woman used her child as security for something she wanted her ex-husband to do for her.  The woman had told her ex-husband that he could have their daughter for the summer.  However, she needed him to do something for her and she told him if he didn’t do it for her, he couldn’t have their daughter.

One of the definitions for pawn in the dictionary is “a person serving as security”.  The woman was using her daughter as security for something she wanted her ex-husband to do for her.  Not only did she hurt her ex-husband and her daughter, she also hurt Jesus because He is very protective of children.

How sad that someone would use a child to get something.  We need to stop hurting children and using them to get what we want from someone.  However, instead of judging her, we need to search our own heart and see if we have used children to get what we want from someone.

May God help us to love our children and do all we can do to make them happy and set a good example for them.  We need to lead them to Jesus by our kind words and actions.  When our children look at us and hear us talking, do they see and hear the unconditional love that Jesus has for them?
