A BROKEN HEART

“After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.  Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.”
John 19:28-30 KJV

Marvin P. Dalton wrote my favorite hymn “Oh What A Savior”.  I believe that just as the Star Spangled Banner is our national anthem “Oh What A Savior” should be the Christian anthem.  When I think about Jesus dying on the cross and enduring all that pain, rejection and agony for my sins, it breaks my heart.

The words in this inspiring hymn remind us how much our precious Saviour loves us because He suffered all of that pain and agony because of our sins.  “O what a Savior, O hallelujah!  His heart was broken on Calvary, His hands were nail scarred, His side was riven, He gave His life-blood for even me.”

Jesus is the Saviour of the world but He is also our personal Saviour and when I sing this beautiful hymn of unconditional love I make it personal.  O what a Savior, O hallelujah!  Your heart was broken on Calvary, Your hands were nail scarred, Your side was riven, You gave Your life-blood for even me.

If you are lonely, hurting and broken hearted, tell Jesus because He understands.  Not only was His heart broken on Calvary, it was also broken when He asked His disciples to watch and pray and they fell asleep.  Yes, Jesus understands our pain when our heart is breaking and He cares and weeps when we hurt.
